Transfer Policy for Software Engineering Major Spring 2018

Transfers to the major of Software Engineering are subject to two constraints:

1. A limited capacity of 35 students per year
2. Developing and accepting a course plan that is compatible with published paradigms for the software engineering major.

To meet the first constraint, candidates who meet the minimum criteria mentioned below will be ranked according to major and minor GPAs with priority given to current CAIS majors. Seats will be filled from this list as available.

To meet the second constraint, a candidate must work out a course plan in consultation with a CIS advisor which fits the paradigms of the major. The department cannot be expected to offer extra sections of a course to meet the needs of a few transfer students.

Minimum Criteria

For Spring 2018 the minimum criteria for transfer to the Software Engineering (SWER) major are listed below. These are subject to revision in future semesters.

• Students are transferring from the CAIS major must:
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.80.
  • Have a minimum major GPA of 3.00.
  • Have completed CAIS131 and CAIS222 with a combined GPA of 3.00 or better.
  • Have no probations.
• If students are transferring from other science majors:
  • If a student has taken 9 or more credits in the present major than he/she must have a minimum major GPA of 3.00.
  • If a student has taken less than 9 credits in the current major than he/she must have a Scientific Tawjihi with minimum average of 80.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. 
  • Obtained a minimum grade of B English courses completed to date.
  • Have no probations.
• If students are transferring from non-science majors:
  • Have a Scientific Tawjihi with minimum average of 80.
  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. 
  • Obtained a minimum grade of B English courses completed to date.
  • Have no probations.
• Required paper work a student requesting transfer should submit to Br Henry Chaya by Friday Jan 12, 2018:
  • A request for transfer form from the Registrars Office.
  • A copy of BU transcript.
  • A proposed plan of study that fits the published SE paradigms as closely as possible.
